The Cherry Hill Education Foundation Presents the 2009 Edition of Dancing with the Cherry Hill Stars

The Foundation launched Dancing with the Cherry Hill Stars last year with 16 dancing couples (combining “amateurs” such as school principals, teachers, and business leaders with professional dancers) and a sell-out crowd of more than 1,000 people. The 2008 edition brought in over $25,000 to support innovative curricular and extra-curricular initiatives for the more than 11,500 children in Cherry Hill’s public schools.

Plans are well underway for the 2009 edition of Dancing with the Cherry Hill Stars to be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 19th in the High School West New Auditorium. Once again, Cherry Hill dancing “stars” will be matched with dancing professionals. A vast array of talented and brave administrators, teachers and students will be representing the Cherry Hill Schools on stage that evening: Marta Audino, Special Education Supervisor; Jim DiCicco, Teacher & Wrestling Coach, High School West; Jeff Heller, Assistant Principal, Beck Middle School; Beth Ann Kob, Principal, Woodcrest; Christy Marrella-Davis, Teacher, Rosa Middle School; Joe Meloche, Principal, High School West; Erin McGee, Teacher, Kingston ; Kirk Rickansrud, Principal, Carusi Middle School; Shelby Smith, Teacher & Dance Coach, High School West; Anthony Crosby, student, High School West; Megan McGee, student, High School East. Greg Gagliardi, East Teacher and Eastside Advisor, will be the evening’s M.C. Gabrielle Zimmerman, Bret Harte student, will make a return performance and “wow” the audience with her superb voice. In addition to our dancing professionals, area business leaders have signed on to dance the night away.

Audience members will vote for their favorite dancing couple by placing dollar bills (in any denomination) in the dancers’ ballot boxes. The dancing couple with the most votes (i.e., the most money) in their ballot box will win the coveted 2009 Stars Trophy. Audience members are encouraged to vote often!

Tickets for reserved seating for this event will go on sale on February 8 on-line at www. CherryHillEducationFoundation.com. Tickets will also be sold at the Activities Office at both high schools.

The Foundation funds grants that support creative and innovative activities in specific classrooms as well as school-wide initiatives. All profits from this event will go directly to fund grants.

Susan Bastnagel Honored

On Saturday, January 24, Susan Bastnagel, was honored as the Foundation’s first “Unsung Hero” of the Cherry Hill School District. Administrators, teachers, Board of Education members, Foundation board members and community members came out to honor Susan during a luncheon held at the Outback Steakhouse in Cherry Hill. The common theme among the speakers was Susan’s dedication to our community, her superb writing talents and her wealth of knowledge about our school district. Speakers included: Eleanor Stofman, Dr. David Campbell, Sharon Giaccio, Seth Klukoff, Lynette Howard, Nancy Adrian, Dennis Davidow and Susan’s husband, Ray, and children Andy and Liz, who is a teacher at Carusi Middle School. Susan, who is used to putting the spotlight on others in our school district, was touched and honored to have the spotlight on herself during the celebration. As Public Information Officer, Susan touches the lives of our children, parents, staff and community in extraordinary ways. In addition to supporting the superintendent, administration and school board, Susan is responsible for the weekly "enews", updating the district’s website, cable TV, covering school functions, communicating with the newspapers, and more!
