FOUNDATION PROVIDES GRANT FUNDING
FOR TWO INNOVATIVE DISTRICT PROGRAMS
November 15, 2002 - The Cherry Hill Education Foundation recently awarded grants to fund innovative programming in the Cherry Hill Public Schools. The grants included:
A $3,000 grant to Rochelle Waldman, Health and Physical Education teacher at Beck Middle School, for "Physical Education: Framework for a Lifetime of Fitness."
A $500 grant to Eve Wood, media specialist at Kilmer Elementary School, for "Traveling Totes." Ms. Wood is working with the Kilmer kindergarten teachers, Susan Yoder and Joyce Nollet, to create 16 reusable totes filled with age-appropriate items such as paperback books, manipulatives, wipe-off boards, and follow-up activities. Kilmer's kindergartners will be able to check out the "Traveling Totes" for a week or so to enhance learning. The contents of each tote will be labeled so that parents will know exactly what is inside and what the student can do with the materials.
The Foundation is partnering with Home Depot for the second year in a row to provide materials for school beautification projects in several Cherry Hill Public Schools. Last year, the foundation awarded a $3,999 grant to Kilmer Elementary School for its Peaceful Playground Program. The goal of the program is to reduce conflict on the playground and to promote character education standards and benchmarks. The foundation also awarded a $3,000 grant for development of an International Radio Station. The radio station, which became operational earlier this year, allows for students to communicate internationally, and even to the International Space Station.
