Classroom Grants Assist Teachers and Administrators in the Education Process

The Cherry Hill Education Foundation makes funds available to Cherry Hill public school educators to create new and innovative educational programs that could not normally be accommodated by the typical school budget. A classroom grant can make learning exciting for teachers and students because it gives teachers an opportunity to be creative and innovative.

Grants to Support Classrooms and Schools

Schools could often benefit from discretionary funding to achieve school-wide goals such as increasing reading comprehension or math scores, addressing minority achievement concerns or implementing innovative special education programs. The Foundation offers grants to address specific school-wide as well as classroom-specific issues or goals.

Grant Requirements

* The project administrator is responsible for implementing the grant at his or her school. The grantees are the principals, teachers and/or classrooms affected by the project. Notification and other correspondence will only be directed to the project administrator.

* Completed applications must have the appropriate principal authorization.

* Applications must be completed and submitted by December 31 and June 30.

Grants that Include Special Education Students

Programs and projects which are being established in order to enhance the district's programming for special education students are welcomed and encouraged. For those who are writing the proposals, as well as for the individuals who would review the proposals, it is important to keep in mind the children's IEP goals and objectives, when proposing programs and related activities. This is to ensure that these activities can be easily connected to those goals and objectives, thus keeping the intent of the IEP in the forefront. Also important to keep in mind is the safety of the children; their need for experiences which promote positive social and emotional interactions with peers; and a feeling of security within the environment in which the activities would occur. Finally, some activities may be of a nature that would warrant parental permission in order for the children to participate, similar to a permission that is obtained for participation in field trips. Therefore, parents of special education children need to be approached as these plans are developed, to ascertain whether or not they would be giving their permission for their child to participate.

* Does the proposed project in any way relate to the goals and objectives contained in the students' IEPs ?

* Will the activities related to the proposal pose any safety issues for the children, given their special needs either individually or as a group?

* Relatedly, is it anticipated that the children with special needs who are involved in the activities experience a sense of social/emotional security within the environment?

* Is there an intent to obtain parental permission for student participation?
